CURRENT EXPERIENCE

db07c462ddbd49de9cbcf5f2f19c7451Priory Education and Children’s Services

Working as an Art Psychotherapist with young adults ages 15 – 18 at Priory Coleg Gwent, and with children of school age at a small number of schools and homes in Herefordshire and Monmouthshire.

The priory department in the Coleg Gwent helps students who have unique personalities and needs a more therapeutic approach to help them on their new journey as young adults. Many have Aspergers, autism and learning difficulties, some have had a difficult upbringing who need a more caring approach to make sure they start out on the right path for them.

The Priory schools and care homes looks after children who have been excluded from mainstream schools due to their challenging behaviours. Many of these children come from a difficult background, have been traumatised and been in care for a number of years. I offer art therapy sessions at the schools and care home to give them a unique therapeutic approach in reflecting on their emotional development and giving them a place to feel listened to.

PAST EXPERIENCE

Kids Company LogoKids Company

At Kids Company, I was an Art Psychotherapist based at a few different venues across Bristol offering one to one art psychotherapy to young children; I also ran workshops for teachers, key workers, and other staff, introducing Art Therapy to them.

Kids Company Bristol was a charity in Bristol that provided practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable children and young people, many of whom have been excluded from mainstream education due to their behaviour and need a unique approach. The ultimate aim is to return the children back to mainstream schooling.

Pupil Referral Unit

I have been fortunate to have worked with a pupil referral unit in Cardiff as a art psychotherapist before I started working for Kids Company, as this has given me more skills to draw upon and have an idea of the best approach to use whilst working with the children with all kinds of issues.

Place2Be logoPlace2Be

Place2Be is a service that offers counseling to primary school aged children in schools who are presenting problems.

I worked with Place2Be for a couple of years at two different schools which gave me a lot of experience of working with children in a school environment. I believe that working at different schools that have used different approaches has given me insights into my own beliefs in how children can overcome their difficulties.

Siblings Together logoSiblings Together

I worked with a charity called Siblings Together who focus on reuniting siblings together on holiday that have been separted through care. I attended two camps and looked after two siblings groups as a mentor. These camps have been a incredible journey for many of the children that attended and overcame many challenges, as well as gaining valuable memories. Amongst other things, I ran creativity workshops in the camps.
